Oh! I see your point... I think you're right. I've never "built" a melody by
stitching individual midi segments. I think your diagnosis is right
(opening/closing) and I'm afraid that there is no workaround for that. The
problem is inherent to the processing of MIDI files. Sorry!

Attached is an mp3 with both versions. the melody first.

It seems like in the programmed version each "note" command
starts and stops the midi system.
