You have uncovered the mess that is the handling of different kinds of variables in MicroWorlds:

Since you are working with "State" "Project" variables (see picture)

the way to know their value is, as the Help mentions:

============createprojectvar "amount
setamount 22
show amount
22
============
notice that "amount" does not have the colon character before the a.

Therefore, change this part:

savetext (word "command :i ".txt)

into this:

savetext (word "command i ".txt)
